Another week flies by...

As everyone is aware another week has flown by, and we are almost 1/3 of the way through the current year.

This week, we had a baseball game Tuesday evening which is truly a big change for us because we are rarely out after dinner during the week. We tend to just wind down and relax in the evening or try to catch up on a little work before we wind down and go to bed. I must say that the game was a nice change though. Also, I think we may actually have a tentative date for the wedding (04/14/2012), but we need to start planning and make sure that date will work out. With the date so far down the road I can not really forsee that as a problem, but without checking who truly knows.

I also broke down last night and ordered an iPad 2, I am sure everyone imagined it was just a matter of time. Aside from that, nothing really out of the ordinary happened last week just work. I am definitely ready to plan the summer vacation out, but I have to schedule around the baseball games this year so it has to be a little more planned out than before but I will make it work.

It is going to be a great day for sports...

The Classico
For many of you who know me well, you know that I have an interest in conventional and what many deem unconventional sports.  For that reason, today will be a great day in sports for me.  I get to start my day with an English FA Cup match between Manchester City and Manchester United followed later this afternoon with the La Liga (Spanish Division I) Classico between Real Madrid and Barcelona with to of the most dominant players in the international sport.  To wrap up the day, I will be attending a baseball game for the local San Diego Padres minor league affiliate the San Antonio Missions.  Be sure to check Flickr later tomorrow for some shots from the Missions game this evening.

Spring Is Here...

I know spring is here because last Saturday I picked up my tickets for the San Antonio Missions (we decided to try the 1/4 season package and see how it goes since we enjoyed the few games we went to last season). It should not be any type of burden to make the 20 games included in the package, and best of all I had a free ballpark dog when I picked up the tickets. As you can imagine, that was just the first of may to come over the next 6 months.

Aside from that, not much has been going on and we have tried to lay low because of the allergies this year. I am starting the countdown to the first game a week from Saturday and have finitely enjoyed listening to the MLB feeds on the MLB 11 app I bought for the iPhone.

Not much of anything tomsy today, just have been slacking again...Play Ball!

Someone please get rid of the oak pollen...

Unfortunately they say your allergies change over time, and I will have to say that this week I will without question have to agree with that statement.  Prior to last Saturday when a mass of Oak Pollen blew in, I do not recall ever having an issue when similar conditions existed.  I can confirm that is without question, no longer the case.  This year I not only have a yellow hue on my vehicle that I have seen in the past,  I also have congestion and a nagging cough that I have thus far not been able to shake.

http://weather.weatherbug.com/pollen-forecast.html?zcode=z6286&region=8&region_name=North%20America&country=US&country_name=USA&state_code=TX&state_name=Texas&zip=78201&city_name=San%20Antonio&stat=KENST

I have been taking a decongestant, to help out and doing my best to stay hydrated to fend off this nagging annoyance, but any old school home remedy suggestions that can be offered will be taken into consideration at this point.  Also, everyone please take 5 and do a rain dance for me...

Monday, Monday...

It is the first Monday of spring, and we are coming off of a nice weekend in San Antonio which included the biggest moon I can ever recall seeing.  Unfortunately, the nice weather of spring has brought an onslaught of Oak Pollen which I feel I have developed some level of an allergy to.  Hence, I have been congested since the wind picked up Saturday evening, and do not see an immediate end insight.

Since I was trying to rest up Sunday, it threw a wrench in the plan to attend the first weekend of the Park at Pearl Event at Pearl Brewery.  Cristina went anyway and had a great time, and fortunately it is slated for every Sunday throughout the spring, so I will have another chance to make the event.

Since the weather for the upcoming week looks very promising, I plan on getting the allergies kicked out and should be able to make a showing next week and maybe even blow the dust off of one of the cameras, take in some sights and give everyone something a little more interesting to look at in the coming weeks.

It Has Been Way Too Long (No Excuses)

Lots has happened since I last checked in with everyone, and I really have no excuse aside from not taking the time to post any updates.  At this point, I am going to attempt to blog twice a week at a minimum with my week running from Sunday to Saturday.  This day range should give me the opportunity to start strong and finish with a fury if I need to fire one out on Saturday to meet my quota for the week.  I could spend hours catching everyone up on the last six months, but I will just drop a few of the highlights and begin moving forward with today...
  • Got engaged to Cristina (we will be planning a 2012 wedding if anyone is interested in the time frame)
  • Hosted Thanksgiving at my house for the second year in a row with both families attending and    wonderful mashed potatoes from Whole Foods (they are the prepared foods potatoes and you should try then if you have the chance)
  • Made a trip for work to Washington, DC for some training and got stranded in Chicago due to the weather
  • Ate at Gibson's Steakhouse while stranded in Chicago (if you are in the area, I suggest you give the steak a try)
  • Stopped working on the weekend (most of the time)
  • Made my first sale on eBay (I could become a real entrepreneur with this deal
I could go on and on, but why relive the past even if it has highlights when we can move forward with all the opportunities we will soon be experiencing in the near future.

I have done a decent job of posting my photos that I have taken on Flickr over the past few months, albeit not near as many as I should have taken so flip through the newer stuff to get caught up and hopefully I have some good stuff coming for everyone to see.

Everyone get ready and feel free to hold me accountable to make sure I hold up my end of this deal.

The Frenchman Has Arrived

Yesterday, Cristina and I jumped in the car and made a quick run to the Houston to watch the MLS (Major League Soccer) game between the Houston Dynamo and New York Red Bulls.  Since we were just making a quick overnight trip, I got a room at the Hilton located on the University of Houston Campus since it was within walking distance of Robertson Stadium where the Dynamo currently play home games.

I decided to make this run not only because of my enjoyment of the game, but also because I had heard rumor prior to the commencement of the World Cup starting that French National Thierry Henry would be signing with the New York Red Bulls after retiring from international competition and the World Cup.  As you may have now heard if you follow the league, my risk paid off, and this game was the debut of Henry in MLS and as a Red Bull.

After the game kicked off, Henry made his presence quickly known in the league and to his opponents with an assist in the 10th minute of the match.  The game was close, ending as a 2 - 2 tie with Henry closing out with an assist on each of the Red Bulls goals as well as 2 nice scoring opportunities he did not finish.

Needless to say, I was not disappointed with the experience of the game or the opportunity to see one of the great players of the era.  With a little luck, MLS will continue to pick up more of these premiere international players to enhance the league and continue to make it grow and more marketable in the states.
